Meninga hopes Blues stick with new players

The Queensland State of Origin rugby league coach Mal Meninga says he hopes New South Wales selectors stick by their inexperienced players.

The Blues have named seven debutants for tonight's opening match in Melbourne, in a bid to claim their first series win since 2005.

Meninga says rookies like Terry Campese need time to adjust to Origin football.

He says they've picked a lot of inexperienced players and he hopes they stick by them ... maybe take a bit of a leaf out of the Maroons' book.

But Blues captain Kurt Gidley says his side will go into tonight's clash with solid club form behind them.

The Blues' debutants are from 12 different clubs, while Queensland boasts an all-Australian backline.

Gidley says having new faces in the side has not hindered the team's preparation.
