Leading Auckland women's rugby and schoolboys coach Brian Evans has been appointed coach of the New Zealand women's rugby side.

Evans was the coach of the Da La Salle College 1st XV who were the winners of the New Zealand Secondary Schools competition last year.

A former coach of the Auckland Women's provincial team he coached them to an unbeaten championship title in 2007, with 14 members of that side going onto make the Black Ferns that year.

The former New Zealand Schools coach Grant Hansen has been named as assistant coach.

The Black Ferns head to England on a three match match tour of England in November as part of their build-up to their defence of the Women's Rugby World Cup in 2010.
