An 11-year-old girl has won the women's section of the North Island Stroke Play Championships at Muriwai Golf Club.

Lydia Ko of the Pupuke club had some nerves to keep in check when her victory came down to the final hole and even a shaking hand couldn't stop the driven youngster winning the women's title.

Ko, who turns 12 during the New Zealand Amateurs next week, sank a two-metre putt to finish three over par 295 for the tournament.

Peter Spearman-Burn of Miramar also held onto his lead to win the men's by two strokes after a final round of 70.
