New Zealand rugby league has announced a $12,000 operating loss for the 2008 financial year but it's financial future will hinge on the NZRL adopting Sport and Recreation New Zealand's game wide review recommendations.

The NZRL will decide whether to endorse the SPARC report this weekend at a special general meeting in Auckland.

But Chairman Ray Haffenden says the reforms must be adopted if the game is to survive and attract future funding.

He says that would be the first step in improving the League's abiltity to support all areas of the game including the development of national competitions, coaching and development support.

If SPARC's proposals are adopted, the existing board will continue to hold office until it is dissolved in May for the election of a new board.
