Sir Bob keeping close eye on the weather forecast

7:45 am on 12 March 2009

Nobody in the 156-strong field for this week's New Zealand Golf Open will be studying the Queenstown weather forecast more anxiously than legendary New Zealand left-hander Sir Bob Charles.

With The Hills course already soft and playing longer than last year's event Sir Bob knows if the wind and rain continues it'll make his chance of making the cut, as he did last time, almost impossible.

When Sir Bob tees off in the opening round it will be his 47th New Zealand Open with his aim this time being to post a score lower than his age.

He'll turn 73 on Saturday and an early birthday present would no doubt be some warmer weather as Sir Bob says he's struggling with the cold.
