Hallfback Dwayne Peel is the surprise omission from Wales coach Warren Gatland's squad for the Six Nations championship.
Peel has played for Wales 63 times, and a former captain and three-times British Lion.
Gatland says Mike Phillips will vie for the number nine jersey with Gareth Cooper.
He says Phillips has played more rugby than Peel, who could still return.
Wales, the Six Nations favourites, begin the defence of their crown in Scotland on February 8.
