The Breakers swingman, Tom Abercrombie, has been given the club's blessing to try and get an NBA basketball contract in the United States.
Abercrombie will leave next week for a tilt at the NBA, with tryouts scheduled in San Antonio, Houston and Milwaukee before a stint in the Las Vegas NBA Summer League.
The 26-year-old is signed to the Breakers for another two seasons, but has an out-clause in his contract allowing him to leave if he secures a deal with an NBA team.
Abercrombie will return to Auckland for the next Australian NBL season if he's unable to earn a contract in the US.
