Andrew Nicholson is on track to make history as the first New Zealand rider to claim the Rolex Grand Slam, after winning the Kentucky Three Day event aboard Quimbo.
The veteran rode a stunning clear round in the showjumping, picking up just three time faults and no jump faults to edge Britain's William Fox Pitt for the Kentucky title.
Nicholson was also third on Calico Joe, after holding first and second places after the cross country phase.
On Calico Joe, Nicholson produced a potentially crippling 12 showjumping faults before clinching victory on Quimbo.
The 51-year-old will claim the Grand Slam title and a pay cheque of more than 400-thousand dollars next weekend, if he can add a victory at Badminton to go with his wins at Kentucky and Burghley.
