The North Harbour professional Michael Hendry has gained his full tour card for the Japan Tour after coming through the sixth and final round of the final stage of qualifying.

The 33-year-old, who has played on the OneAsia and PGA Tour of Australasia the past three years, will join fellow New Zealander David Smail, who has been on the Japan Tour for the past 15 seasons.

It continues a fine season for Hendry who started the year by winning the New Zealand PGA Pro-Am at The Hills, finished fourth at the Perth Invitational and tied for tenth at the BMW NZ Open in Christchurch.

Hendry currently leads the PGA Tour of Australasia Order of Merit from Australian Adam Scott.
