New Zealand's Olympic shot put champion Valerie Adams has been nominated for the prestigious Laureus Sports Awards.
Adams is one of eight nominees for the Laureus Sportswoman of the year award. The list will be pruned to six next month.
Other candidates include Serena Williams for her great comeback year in tennis, the champion Australian hurdler Sally Pearson, the Jamaican sprinter Shelley-Ann Fraser-Pryce, and the American swimmer Missy Franklin.
The date for the presentation function in the New Year hasn't yet been set.
