A three-point field goal in the dying seconds by forward Mika Vukona proved the game winner as the New Zealand Breakers edged the Sydney Kings 79-76 at the North Shore Events Centre in the latest round of the Australian National Basetball League.
Sydney grabbed the first momentum of the game with a 15-6 run to open a six-point advantage early in the second quarter.
The Breakers went off the boil but were just as quickly re-ignited by dynamic guard Cedric Jackson who nailed crucial points throughout the game.
His 14 points for the quarter sparked a 14-2 run that carried the titleholders into a 43-39 half-time lead.
But Sydney came back and sunk consecutive three-pointers to eventually tie the scores with three and a half minutes to play.
Vukona, not known for his long-range shooting ability, came to the party with the clock winding down.
Cedric Jackson was productive with 22 points, seven rebounds, seven assists and four steals for New Zealand.
Elsewhere the Cairns Taipans came up with a 92-80 overtime road win over the Townsville Crocodiles.
