Adelaide council vote to take key to city from Armstrong

The disgraced cyclist Lance Armstrong is losing his key to the City of Adelaide because of the doping scandal.

The Adelaide City Council voted 6-1 to withdraw the city's highest honour last night, and Armstrong is the first of 33 recipients of the key to lose it.

It comes less than a year after the council decided to award him the key for raising the profile of the Tour Down Under and cancer research.

A damning report by the US Anti-Doping Agency concluded Armstrong helped orchestrate the most sophisticated doping program in the history of sport.

Armstrong is being stripped of all of his cycling results from 1998, the year he resumed racing after successfully battling cancer, and a year before the first of his seven consecutive Tour de France wins from 1999 to 2005.
