The Wellington golfer Michael Campbell is in contention heading into the final round of the Portugal Masters after a four under par 67.
Campbell's best round of the tournament so far has him four shots off the leader, Bernd Wiesberger of Austria, in a three-way share of third.
Campbell's enjoying making his second straight cut on the European Tour, the first time the former US Open champion has done that since July 2011.
The 43-year-old's ranked 607th in the world having been as high as 13th at the start of 2006.
He last registered a win in the 2005 World Match Play Championship at Wentworth and has endured some torrid seasons including 2010 when he made just one cut and earned less than 14,000 euros on the European Tour.
Campbell says he's put too much pressure on himself to perform over the past three or four years, but now he says he's gone back to basics, and golf is fun once again.
Spain's Miguel Angel Jimenez, 48, and trying to become the oldest winner in European Tour history, finished with a 30-foot birdie putt for a round of 68, and is five shots off the pace.
