Australia beat New Zealand 18-10 in their rugby league test in Townsville, scoring three tries to two.

In an arm-wrestle of a game, Tim Sheens' side outlasted the Kiwis in front of a capacity crowd of more than 26,000.

New Zealand have not beaten Australia in a one-off Test since 2003 and skipper Cameron Smith becomes only the third man to captain a side to three trophies in a year after helping Melbourne to the NRL Premiership and Queensland to a seventh straight State of Origin series.

The Junior Kangaroos strolled to a 48-16 win over the Junior Kiwis in the curtain-raiser.
