John Terry's England place up for grabs

The England football team begins life without stalwart John Terry this weekend, but San Marino are the perfect opponents for the former captain's yet unknown replacement to ease his way into the centre back's boots.

Coach Roy Hodgson said last week that he had some concerns about his defence and Saturday morning's World Cup qualifier would do little to help him narrow down his options after Terry's angry retirement amid a racist abuse row.

Meanwhile Ashley Cole, who testified for Terry in his racial abuse case, is facing a misconduct charge for sending an offensive tweet about the FA, although he is free to play for England later this week.
