Wallabies incorrectly denied a substitute

7:50 am on 4 October 2012

The Wallabies should have been allowed to make a substitute in their 31-8 Rugby Championship loss to South Africa, when the Australians finished the match with 14 men.

The International Rugby Board has confirmed that the match officials in charge in Pretoria incorrectly prevented the Wallabies from making a substitute in the 66th minute.

The officials failed to recognise a law that says the reserve hooker Saia Faingaa should have been permitted to replace Tatafu Polota-Nau as Benn Robinson, who had already been substituted, replaced fellow prop Ben Alexander, who was injured during the match.
