Adams to receive gold medal in Auckland

New Zealand's London Olympic shot put champion Valerie Adams will receive her belated gold medal in Auckland next week.

A public ceremony will be held on the city's waterfront next Wednesday to present Adams with the gold.

The International Olympic Committee has confirmed they've received the gold medal back from Belarussian Nadzeya Ostapchuk, who was given a one-year suspension by Belarus's anti-doping agency after her coach Alexander Yefimov confessed to intentionally spiking her food with the steroid.

Yefimov has been suspended for four years.

In light of Ostapchuk's lenient ban the New Zealand Olympic Committee is making submissions to the World Anti Doping Agency calling for stronger penalties as well as more stringent and targeted testing programmes.
