The Wellington swimmer Mary Fisher's won her fourth medal and her first gold at the Paralympic Games in London.

The 19-year-old set a world record in winning the 200 metre SM11 individual medley.

Fisher had already won two silvers and a bronze at the Games.

Her gold, along with Canterbury swimmer Sophie Pascoe's sixth and final medal - a silver in the 100 metres SB9 breast stroke - means New Zealand ended the Games in 21st on the overall table, with 17 medals.

Pascoe's surpassed her medal haul from the Beijing Paralympics and her three golds along with Fisher's lone win and Cameron Leslie's defence of his 150 metre medley means the three swimmers have won five of the country's six golds.
