Matthew Cowdrey has become Australia's greatest Paralympian after collecting his 11th gold medal at the London Games.
The 23-year-old swimmer eclipsed sprinter Tim Sullivan's mark of 10 Paralympic titles by winning the 50m freestyle in a world record time of 25.13 seconds.
The South Australian celebrated breaking the record by ripping off his goggles and cap and smashing the water with his fist.
He says he's relieved to have finally have overtaken Sullivan and says to be Australia's best Paralympian is humbling and it is a huge honour.
It was Cowdrey's third gold medal of the Games after winning the 100m backstroke and being a member of Australia's victorious 4x100m freestyle team.
He still has three events to go, the 100m freestyle, 200m medley and 4x100m medley.
Cowdrey will be aiming to win the 100m freestyle and 200m medley for a third straight Games.
