South African star Oscar Pistorius began his London Paralympic campaign by smashing the 200 metres T44 world record in his heat.

Pistorius ran the 200 in 21.30, shaving more than half a second off the previous mark.

The 25-year-old, who is dubbed the 'Blade Runner', is defending the 100, 200 and 400 Olympic titles he won in Beijing four years ago.

Pistorius made history at the London Olympics by becoming the first Paralympian to compete with able bodied athletes.
