Wright says Black Caps weakness against spin must be fixed

12:21 pm on 8 August 2012

The outgoing New Zealand cricket coach John Wright has called for the Black Caps to spend more time in sub-continent conditions to try and address their endemic problems in playing spin bowling.

Wright's tenure has come to an end following New Zealand's miserable 10-match tour of the West Indies, where spinner Sunil Narine took 32 wickets for the home side as the Black Caps slumped to just one win.

Wright says the Black Caps inability to play spin has been hurting the side for years and will continue to stop them winning if something's not done.

He says the Black Caps and New Zealand A side must spend a lot more time playing and practicing in sub-continent conditions if they're to have any chance of winning major tournaments in the future.

Wright is making way for incoming coach Mike Hesson who takes over for the Black Caps tour of India which starts at the end of the month.
