The New Zealand cricketers hopes of drawing the two test series with the West Indies have suffered a major setback, with spinner Dan Vettori ruled out of the second test with a thigh injury.

Vettori tore an adductor muscle in his right thigh during the first test in Antigua and will now return home for treatment.

The Black Caps physiotherapist Paul Close, says Vettori will need complete rest from bowling and just when he's able to return to playing will depend on how well he responds to treatment.

The second test starts in Jamaica on Friday, with the Black Caps trailing one nil after losing the first test by nine wickets.
