The Hawkes Bay rider Brook MacDonald has won the latest UCI Downhill Mountain Biking World Cup event in Val d'Isere, France.

It's the 20-year-old's first World Cup win of his career.

Christchurch's Cam Cole, who qualified first yesterday, finished eighth, while Wanganui's Sam Blenkinsop was 18th and Hawkes Bay's George Brannigan 20th.

The win moves MacDonald, just the second New Zealand rider to win a World Cup title after Blenkinsop in 2008, to 8th in the overall standings with one round to go.
