The International Rugby Board has appointed Australian Brett Gosper as its new chief executive.

The 53-year-old, a member of Australia's under-21 team in his playing career, will start his role on August 15, the IRB announced.

Gosper, the son of former International Olympic Committee vice president Kevan Gosper, will be responsible for day-to-day IRB operations and have the dual role of Rugby World Cup managing director.
