It'll be a New Zealand-South Africa Super Rugby final with the semi-finalists now decided.

The two New Zealand sides left in the competition, the Crusaders and the Chiefs, will play in Hamilton on Friday night for one final spot while the South African sides the Stormers and the Sharks will contest the other semi in Capetown.

Dan Carter kicked 23 points to help the Crusaders to a 28-13 win over the Pretoria based Bulls in their playoff match in Christchurch while the Durban-based Sharks beat the defending champions the Queensland Reds 30-17 in Brisbane.

Meanwhile the Bulls winger Bjorn Basson has undergone stomach surgery in Christchurch after suffering an intestinal tear in the match.

Basson left the field during the first half of the match against the Crusaders.

He'll remain in hospital for another five days and then have to stay in the country for another five days before he's able to fly home.

Bulls medical staff say it will be six weeks before he's able to play again.
