Football Ferns could set the tone for NZ Olympic campaign

7:11 am on 23 July 2012

The New Zealand women's football team has the chance to set the tone for the rest of the country's Olympic campaign, when they match up against Great Britain in Cardiff in the first event of the London Games on Thursday morning.

The Football Ferns have spent some time in the Olympic village before heading to Wales for their final preparations, and they're likely to be back at full strength for the opening match, with fullback Ali Riley recovering quickly from a leg injury..

The New Zealand Chef de Mission, Dave Currie, says it's an important game for the whole New Zealand Olympic team, and they will go out of their way to show their support.

Currie says it's quite significant that the Ferns open the Games against the hosts, and if they can get an upset it would really set the campaign alive.

The match kicks off on Thursday at one o'clock in the morning, New Zealand time.
