Magic too strong in extra time as George bows out on sour note

Temepara George didn't get the chance to end her stellar netball career with a shot at the only silverware she hasn't won, after her Northern Mystics were beaten by the Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic 57-48 in extra time in the ANZ Championship semi-final in west Auckland.

George, the Mystics captain and longest-serving player, may want to forget last night as quickly as possible in fact - she turned over the ball that handed the Magic the chance to tie the scores at 44-all and send the game into overtime.

The Magic were dominant in the two extra periods to record their 11th straight win and race into Sunday's final against the Vixens in Melbourne.

The result brings down the curtain on the career of the Silver Ferns midcourt great.

George played every quarter of every game for the franchise. She made her international debut in 2000 and the 36-year-old won everything in netball aside from the ANZ Championship, claiming World Championship gold in 2003 and two consecutive Commmonwealth Games gold medals.
