Souths pip Roosters in Monday night thriller

6:49 am on 17 July 2012

South Sydney avenged their early season loss to their bitter rivals the Sydney Roosters with one of the most memorable wins in the National Rugby League in recent seasons, a 24-22 victory on Monday night.

Just as the Roosters did to them in the season-opener, the Rabbitohs came back from the dead, scoring two tries in the last two minutes - the match-winner from a 100 metres out with just 45 seconds left on the clock.

The Roosters had come from 12-4 down at half-time to lead 22-12 with five minutes to play.

The result lifts Souths into the top four, and leaves the Roosters five points out of the top eight.
