British football giants Liverpool have agreed a fee with Italian side AS Roma for the transfer of striker Fabio Borini, according to media reports, with the 21-year-old moving to Anfield in an 11 million pound ($21.5 million) deal.

Liverpool are discussing personal terms with the young Italy international who is set to have a medical and complete the move during the weekend.

Borini would become new manager Brendan Rodgers' first signing at Liverpool after previously working with him at both Chelsea and Swansea City.

Rodgers moved for Borini after Dirk Kuyt left for Fenerbahce and with Luis Suarez involved in the Olympic Games with Uruguay.

Liverpool's Argentina attacking midfielder Maxi Rodriguez has joined Newell's Old Boys in his homeland.

Maxi, who moved to Anfield from Atletico Madrid in January 2010, netted 17 goals in 73 appearances for Liverpool.

The 31-year-old international began his career with Rosario-based Newells before joining Espanyol in Spain.
