10:32 am on 13 July 2012

Sri Lanka have won their first test match series in almost three years after batting out a draw with Pakistan in the third and final test at Kandy.

Dinesh Chandimal and Kumar Sangakkara shared an 88-run second-wicket partnership as Sri Lanka finished on 195 for four, having been set a 270-run victory target earlier in the day by Pakistan.

Sri Lanka, who won the first test in Galle before the second test in Colombo was drawn, recorded their first series victory since beating New Zealand 2-0 in August 2009.

Since then they have drawn three series and lost five.
