Erakovic bows out of doubles at Wimbledon

6:44 am on 4 July 2012

It took around two and a half hours and was spread over two days but Marina Erakovic has been beaten in the third round of doubles at Wimbledon.

Erakovic and Thai partner, Tamarine Tanasugarn lost 3-6 6-2 5-7 in a tight contest to the fifth seeded Russian pair, Ekaterina Makarova and Elena Vesnina.

The contest had started the previous night but was suspended at 3-2 to Erakovic and Tanasugarn in the first set.

However when the match resumed last night it was the Russians who started well reeling off the next five games in a row, taking the set 6-3.

The rain then started to fall again and players left the court in what was another frustrating day with the weather.

When they eventually returned Erakovic and Tanasugarn quickly wrapped up the second set 6-2.

In the final set little separated the pairs but it wasn't enough for the New Zealand number one and her partner, the Russians winning 7-5 to take the match.

Erakovic will now travel to California for the two US$740,000 WTA events at Stanford and then Carlsbad before returning to London for the Olympics.
