Cricket chiefs back mandatory DRS

Cricket's chief executives have backed the mandatory use of video umpires in Tests and one-day internationals, a year after they were made optional at the request of powerful India.

The ICC chief executives say independent tests have proved the reliability of the Decision Review System, which incorporates ball-tracking and "hotspot" thermal imaging.

The recommendation for compulsory DRS, provided host countries can afford the technology, will now be considered by the ICC board over the next two days in Kuala Lumpur.

Optional DRS has caused confusion and controversy over the past year, including complaints during India's tour of England, when the visitors refused to allow it.
