The former All Blacks coach John Mitchell has been suspended from as coach of the Johannesburg based Super rugby side the Lions following complaints from players.

The franchise president Kevin de Klerk says the complaints which he describes as quite serious will be investigated.

De Klerk wouldn't elaborate on the complaints but says they come from a substantial number of players and cannot be taken lightly.

The assistant coaches, former All Blacks first five Carlos Spencer and former Springbok lock Johan Ackermann, will take over the coaching side.
