The New Zealand women's football team has beaten China 1-0 in Auckland to win the two-match series 2-0.

Amber Hearn's record-breaking 30th international goal - a 30-metre chip in the ninth minute - proved the difference in cold and wet conditions at North Harbour Stadium.

The Football Ferns won the opening match 3-1 on Sunday.

Hearn says it was important for them to back up and they're ecstatic that they've done it against a side like China, and beating them twice after 12 straight losses is fantastic.

The Football Ferns head to Australia for two matches against the 10th-ranked Matildas in Wollongong on Sunday and Wednesday before returning to New Zealand in time for Readings to announce his 18 player squad for London on June 29th.

New Zealand has drawn Great Britain, Brazil and Cameroon at the Olympics, beginning on July 25th in Cardiff against the hosts.
