The New Zealand Olympic Committee has added weightlifter Richard Patterson to the New Zealand team for the London Olympic Games.

The 29-year-old, a silver medallist at the Delhi Commonwealth Games, will be taking part in his second Olympics after finishing 21st at the 2008 Beijing Games.

Patterson says a big thanks must go out to fellow New Zealand weightlifter Tevita Ngalu, who had to successfully lift 157 kilogrammes with a torn hamstring at the recent Oceania Champs, in order to qualify New Zealand for a spot, for one male lifter, at the London Games.

Patterson says that's an Olympic moment that will be remembered. He'll compete in the 85-kilo class in London.
