The New Zealand tennis number one Marina Erakovic has finally been confirmed for the London Olympics.

After a drawn-out selection process the NZ Olympic Committee announced on Wednesday that Erakovic would become the first New Zealand tennis player to compete in two Olympic Games.

Tennis New Zealand chief executive Steve Johns is grateful to the NZOC for confirming Erakovic's participation - but says the process shouldn't have taken so long.

Johns says they always thought she should be there, especially as she's recently beaten players in the top 16 in the world including current world number two Victoria Azarenka.

The New Zealand weightlifter Richie Patterson's also been selected for his second Olympic Games, Patterson will compete in the 85-kilogramme class in London.

Meanwhile the target shooter Ryan Taylor is considering legal action in a bid to compete at the London Olympics, after claiming he's missed out on selection in the New Zealand team.
