Silver Ferns coach decides against permanent assistant

The Silver Ferns netball coach Wai Taumaunu has decided against appointing a permanent assistant, opting instead to give four trans-Tasman franchise coaches time in the role.

The Waikato-Bay of Plenty Magic's Noeline Taurua, Northern Mystics coach Deb Fuller and her assistant Gail Parata, and the Southern Steel's Janine Southby will all fill the role during the Silver Ferns' international programme this year.

Taumaunu believes the approach will give the coaches a better understanding of the international programme.

Taurua will be Taumaunu's assistant for the Silver Ferns' three-test series against Australia for the Constellation Cup in September.

Taumaunu says she'll appoint a permanent assistant about this time next year as the Silver Ferns begin their buildup to their next major event, the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
