One of the brightest prospects in English cricket, Tom Maynard, has died at the age of 23 after he was hit by an underground train in London.

The Cardiff based player was trying to evade police after being stopped for driving erratically near Wimbledon Park station.

The Surrey batsman had already toured Bangladesh with the England Lions and had been tipped to follow in the footsteps of his father Matthew, who earned 18 international caps.

Australia's coach Micky Arthur says it's a tragic loss for the game.

He says the 23-year-old was a fantastically talented and gifted player and his thoughts are with the Maynard family.
