The veteran German tennis player Tommy Haas has pulled off one of the shocks of the year, toppling Roger Federer in straight sets in the final of the Halle Open.

The 34-year-old Haas, who needed a wildcard to play in the event, won 7-6 6-4, describing his week as one of the best in his career.

Haas's last title was at this tournament in 2009, which he followed up by reaching the Wimbledon semi-finals.

Federer said he was very impressed with Haas's form and he deserved to win.
