Scotland beat Wallabies in atrocious conditions in Newcastle

11:46 am on 6 June 2012

Scotland pulled off a major upset with a 9-6 win over the Wallabies in their one-off rugby test played in atrocious conditions Tuesday night in Newcastle.

Greig Laidlaw landed a penalty from 25 metres out into a gale force wind with the last kick of the game, two minutes after the fulltime siren had sounded, ending Scotland's seven-match losing streak, and giving them their first test win in Australia for 30 years.

Australia, who blooded six new caps, also lost their opening test last season, at home to Samoa.

But they're sure to field a very different side for Saturday's first test against Six Nations champions Wales in Brisbane on Saturday.

Scotland move on to tests against Fiji and Samoa.
