The Queens Park Rangers football club captain Joey Barton has been arrested on suspicion of affray after a brawl outside a Liverpool nightclub.
Barton was involved in the early-hours trouble while on a night out with his girlfriend in the Liverpool city centre.
Two men were arrested on suspicion of a public order offence at the scene of the incident outside Garlands nightclub in the city.
But after they were held in custody and questioned, Barton and a 20-year-old man were also arrested.
All have been bailed pending further inquiries, apart from Barton, who remains in custody to be questioned.
The Liverpool-born Barton will serve a 12-match ban at the start of next season after being found guilty of violent conduct following his sending-off in QPR's final Premier League game of last term against his former club Manchester City.
