The New Zealand 49er crew of Marcus Hansen and Josh Porebski have scored a win on the opening day of the World Cup sailing event at Weymouth, the venue for next month's Olympics.

On a day of racing described as a bit of a lottery, the pair are fourth overall, while Olympians Peter Burling and Blair Tuke are 16th.

The best of the other New Zealand crews are Jo Aleh and Olivia Powrie who are eighth in the 470.

Hamish Pepper and Jim Turner are eighth in the Star and Natalia Kosinska is ninth in the boardsailing.
