The US Open champion Rory McIlroy has missed his third straight cut worldwide at the Memorial tournament in Ohio.

The Northern Irish world number two battled to a seven over par 79 in cold, wet and windy conditions at Muirfield Village Golf Club, finishing well down the second-round leaderboard.

McIlroy failed to record a single birdie and wound up with two double-bogeys, missing the projected cut by six shots.

Masters champion Bubba Watson is another who won't play the weekend.

South African Rory Sabbatini is the sole leader by one stroke after a second consecutive 69 left him at six under par at Muirfield Village.

Tiger Woods is in a three-way share of second place with Scott Stallings and Spencer Levin, after Woods shot a three under 69.
