The towering American tennis player John Isner has been involved in another marathon grand slam match against another Frenchman, but this time he's been on the losing side.

Two years ago Isner beat Nicolas Mahout at Wimbledon in an 11-hour marathon that went to 70-68 in the fifth set.

Overnight Friday, the 10th seed and last surviving American male in the singles draw at the French Open lost to the local wild card entry Paul-Henri Mathieu 18-16 in the fifth set.
