Manchester United has confirmed the club's veteran midfielder Paul Scholes has signed a one-year contract extension.

United's manager Sir Alex Ferguson revealed earlier this month that Scholes was set to play on for another season after coming out of retirement in January, and the club have now completed the formalities of the deal.

After returning from retirement to bolster United's underperforming midfield, Scholes produced enough influential displays to convince Ferguson that the 37-year-old could still play a part next season.
