Basketball Australia still working on a 9 team ANBL

Basketball Australia remains cautiously optimistic about the cash-strapped Gold Coast Blaze playing on in a nine-club ANBL next season.

Although Gold Coast last month placed themselves into voluntary administration, Basketball Australia says they will release a nine-team draw this week.

There were fears the NBL would fall to an eight-team league with the Blaze appearing to be the latest sporting club to hit hard times on the glitter strip.

But interim BA chief executive Scott Derwin says the ANBL has instructed all clubs to plan around the Blaze playing when the new competition tips off on October 5th.
