The Blues chairman Gary Whetton concedes the rest of the Super Rugby season will be a real test for coach Pat Lam after the NZRU announced it would be advertising the Blues head coaching role from next week.
Lam's time in charge appears to be over with the side bottom of the standings with just one win from 10 matches.
Lam has hinted he won't re-apply for the job, saying he and his family are exploring other options.
Whetton says Lam has the support of the team behind him and while it is a real test of his character, he's sure the coach and players can show that character in their last six matches.
