The Southland golfer Vaughan McCall has achieved a rare double in New Zealand Golf by winning both the New Zealand stroke Play and Amateur titles in the same year for the first time in 39 years.
The 20-year-old from the Gore Club achieved the feat when he overcame Rotorua teenager Peter Lee 6 and 5 in fine conditions yesterday at the Mount Maunganui Golf Club.
McCall says winning both the Amateur and the Stroke Play in the same year is very satisfying after putting a lot of work into his game.
