The former Australian rugby league international Greg Dowling says the Australian Rugby League Commission has missed an opportunity to draw a line in the sand forever on players' representative eligibility by allowing New Zealander James Tamou to play for the Kangaroos.
After representing New Zealand Maori and being selected in New Zealand's Four Nations train-on squad last year, Dowling says the commission should have taken a stand and treated Tamou as a test case.
Dowling says it's happening too often with the likes of New Zealand-born players Tonie Carroll, Brad Thorn and Karmichael Hunt playing for the Kangaroos, and the New Zealand League should have played Tamou in the Four Nations which would have stopped him playing for Australia.
The ARL Commission says the eligibility rule is a matter for the International Rugby League Federation to resolve.
