NZ triathletes prepare for last chance Olympic spots

With only Andrea Hewitt assured of an Olympic triathlon spot at the London Games, other New Zealand hopefuls have their last chance to join her, when they compete in the opening round of the world championship series in Sydney this weekend.

The Sydney event is the final Olympic qualifier with seven New Zealand men chasing the sole automatic nomination, by finishing in the top eight and being the first New Zealander across the finish line.

All up there are three spots to compete in London, with team to be named next week.

Five women are chasing the two other spots in the team and have a similar qualifying procedure to the men, needing to finish inside the top eight for automatic qualification as long as the only New Zealander to beat them is Hewitt.
